This week is all about kids rooms on my blog. In preparation for my own little baby’s room, I have been searching high and low for ideas and colour themes that will work well for my home. We have decided to keep the sex of our baby a surprise until the big arrival. This means I will be keeping the decorating to minimum until I get to meet our new little family member. However, that doesn’t mean I can’t help to inspire other parents out there who are about to embark on similar decorating adventures. Check out these latest fabrics for some ideas.

On my trade travels last week I came across some really gorgeous designer kids fabrics that are hot off the press from Schumacher. For those who are not familiar with this brand, Schumacher is a company from USA specialising in a quality range of fabrics, wallpaper and trims. You can purchase them through Grant Dorman interior products in Hawthorn, Melbourne where they showcase these fabrics along with a range of rugs, furniture and lighting. Grant and his team really make you feel at home when you step into their showroom which is one of the many reasons I love to go there.
Schumacher has just launched a new range called LULU DK | Child which features six embroideries on cottons and eight prints. The collection has a mix of bold and pastel colour tones with an arrangement of exciting animals, butterflies, small patterns and oversized motifs. This collection is suited to both infants and young teens and can be styled in a variety of ways to achieve a whimsical or casual feel.
My favourite has to be this one above. I just love the freshness of colour and pattern and can imagine it being used as curtains for a girl’s bedroom. This particular pattern is inspired by the artist Matisse. It has been designed to reflect a painting effect on canvas. I could happily frame this on my wall as a piece of art. This would also look great as a duvet cover too.
For a boy’s room you could use this fun sail boat fabric to create a lovely theme based around sailing and water. The bright green, blue and red work really well together and you could introduce some stripes and geometrics to compliment in cushions and wallpaper. You could even get your kids to create some boats out of lego or bricks to have on display.
If you would like to see more from this range of fabrics you should check out Grant Dorman’s stand at Design & Decoration next week. They will be showcasing all the latest new ranges and even have a shuttle bus organised direct to the showroom for those who want to see more after the show.
